Do you think you need a new job?
Stuck, bored and miserable at work, with no idea what to do
about it, except move to another job? Well, that might not
be the best way to deal with the situation.
Instead, stop focusing on the job you hate and explore the
possibility of a different life. Here's a process to help you
assess your current situation and beliefs and learn to pursue
this through work.
1 Willingness to do something different. Breaking the
cycle of doing what you've always done is one of the most
difficult tasks. It's time to open your mind to other
possibilities.
2 Being who you are, not who someone else wants
you to be. Look at the gifts and talents you have and make
a commitment to pursue the things you love most.
3 Self-definition. Learn to see yourself. Examine your skills and knowledge and identify how they can be applied to
your desired occupation.
4 Self-honouring. Accepting yourself without judgement helps eliminate insecurities and will make you more selfassured.
5 Vision. Create a solid statement in about 12 sentences that describes in detail how you see your life related to work.
6 Taking appropriate risks. Zen monks believe the way to enlightenment comes through facing obstacles and
difficulties. Assess what you're willing to risk in pursuit of your dream.
7 Action. Some teachers of Zen describe action as follows: "If you want to get to the top of a mountain, just sitting at
the foot thinking about it won't get you there. It's by making the effort of climbing up the mountain, step by step, that
the summit's eventually reached."
